Reaction Injection Molding (RIM)
Basic Reaction Injection Molding Operation showing rigid light density foam encapsulation of metal inserts for an automotive application (EA knee bolster). Use of robot technology and several endforms are used. The video shows the basic premise of RIM polyurethane foam molding. We specialize in large format RIM molding and have capabiliy to make single shot parts up to 75 lbs in a single shot (or 6′ x 6′ x 2′). With our higher density foam systems, such as Prism, Bayflex or Baydur products, this is an excellent process for medical device enclosures, analytical housings and structural parts needing low annual volume production (200-20000 parts per year). This video shows an automotive part that is mid to high volume in annual use (1000-1000000 parts per year). Yes we currently mold about 6,000 bumpers a year out of this technology and material. Call me to learn more about this at: Thieme Corporation, St. Charles, IL 248-628-2930. Mike Young
You can also see larger parts being made on my other video call “Reaction Injection Molding (RIM) and Polyurethane (PUR) “
can you make front bumpers out of this
Reaction Injection Molding/??? ty
Our company also makes gear pumps systems for RIM applications and that feed the mold and are installed in the robot arm.
Great Video!
